Alignment for Salvation

Teleology comes from the Greek word, Teleos, meaning end or purpose. Teleology presumes that outcome is intrinsic to history, although not all existence will attain the actualization that is present in its potential. What oftentimes calls forth being to its full purpose is alignment between Teleos and Opportunity (sometimes referred to as "Serendipity") . Teilhard de Chardin has applied teleology to society and outlined a course of social development.

The history of salvation offers a clear example of what could happen when Teleos aligns itself with Opportunity. Christians believe that the definitive moment of salvation occurred with the death and Resurrection of the Christ. Humanity was freed from “sin, death, and the law” to enjoy the fulness of life. I have read that history was ripe for a movement such as this, since, under Roman rule, the Western world had enjoyed a rare opportunity for unity and commerce. The person of Jesus was indeed charismatic, although the case may be that his focus was not the salvation of men and women as it was a passionate dedication to social justice. Yet a further opportunity presented itself with the conversion of Paul, who developed a cristology that directly linked salvation with the actions of the Christ.
